Rick’s Reflections … Where Have You Gone, O Britannica?
The recent announcement that the Encyclopedia Britannica will no longer be available in hard copy sure caused a stir. Those of us who are a bit older remember that having this set of books on the shelves at home used to be a sign of parental commitment to quality education. Not everyone could afford these books, however. My parents settled for a nice set of Time-Life books on world history and geography. Read more

Wheat Ridge Awards $41,827 in Sabbatical Grants
Wheat Ridge Ministries recently awarded seven grants totaling $41,827 to support sabbatical experiences for pastors and their congregations through the Ministry Sabbatical Grant Program. Wheat Ridge believes that a sabbatical leave for rest and renewal is a significant way to renew ministry development in congregations and improve the health and wellness of church professionals. Fit for Life – Fit for Him – Making an Impact with a Congregation Health Ministry Grant
Christ Lutheran Church in Costa Mesa, California, is taking St. Paul’s advice to honor God with their bodies very seriously, believing that an abundant life is for the whole person – body, mind and spirit – and taking on the challenge together in a program they call “Fit for Life – Fit for Him.” Read more

Congregation Health Ministry Grant Proposals Due April 16
Wheat Ridge invites and encourages Lutheran congregations to submit proposals for its Congregation Health Ministry (CHM) Grant Program. The CHM Grant Program enables ministry leaders to move inspired whole person health and wellness ideas into action within congregations through $2,000 matching grants. The deadline to apply is April 16. Learn more

Every Dog Has Its Day
Every dog may have its day, but for Lutheran Church Charities’ (LCC) K-9 Parish Comfort Dogs, every day is for the dogs! With the assistance of a seed grant from Wheat Ridge in 2009, LCC expanded its pilot program and today over 40 dogs have gone through the program. Some dogs are placed in churches and schools full-time while others travel with LCC staff to console those mourning the loss of a loved one or dealing with tragedy. Recently, the Comfort Dogs have made national news on CNN and K-LOVE National Radio! Now that’s something to bark about!
