Matching Gifts

A corporate matching gift program can multiply the value of a gift to Wheat Ridge Ministries.  These programs allow employees to direct their employer's charitable giving to the benefit of Wheat Ridge.  The human resources or employee benefits office should know if the company will match gifts.  Donors may also qualify for a matching gift program from their former employer, their spouse's current or former employer or the company on whose board they serve.

Wheat Ridge Ministries is an eligible organization for matching gifts through Thrivent Financial for Lutherans' GivingPlus program.  If you are a policy holder contributions to Wheat Ridge can be matched.

Thrivent will match gifts one dollar for every two dollars for any amount up to $600.

Members can make multiple donations (i.e. monthly, quarterly, etc.) to the same organization in a given year and have the supplemental dollars provided when the paperwork is received and processed, however, the donations will only be supplemented up to the $300 maximum amount.

When a member contributes 25 or more hours of volunteer service to an organization that they have supported with an eligible GivingPlus gift, Thrivent Financial will contribute an additional $25.

There are additional restrictions, so please see the GivingPlus page on the Thrivent Financial for Lutherans website.

For more information on matching gifts or to receive GivingPlus matching gift forms, contact Holly Harrison Fiala at 800.762.6748.

Appreciated Securities

Gifts of appreciated stock, mutual funds or other securities are a quick, easy way to support Wheat Ridge Ministries.  The donation of stock which has been held for more than one year will qualify for a deduction of the stock's entire market value and no capital gains taxes will be due.

To avoid the costs associated with processing gifts of stock and bond certificates, please consider the following method of donating to Wheat Ridge Ministries.

Please inform Wheat Ridge when securities have been transferred to our account to allow us to verify the receipt of the securities and promptly acknowledge the donation.

Securities that are held in book-entry can be delivered electronically to Wheat Ridge Ministries using the following Depository Trust Company (DTC) delivery information:

SEI Private Tr Co
DTC #2039
Re: Wheat Ridge Ministries
Account #44-003-0459990
"Donor Name"

When directing a broker to deliver securities via DTC, please instruct them to contact the following representative of our custodian, Harris Trust and Savings Bank, prior to delivery: Valerie Haney 312.461.3719.

A broker should be able to deposit a stock or bond certificate into DTC for a donor's account.  DTC is a book-entry system which facilitates the timely, accurate delivery of securities and automatically credits income to an account on the payable date.  Once a broker has deposited a stock or bond certificate to DTC on a donor's behalf, the security can be delivered electronically using the information provided above.

If not using a broker, please send stock or bond certificates to Wheat Ridge Ministries re-registered either: 1) in negotiable form, registered in the donor's name with Stock Power attached or with the donor's signature on the back of the security and designation of Wheat Ridge Ministries as the assignee, or 2) in the name of "Gale & Co.", the nominee name of our custodian.  This will facilitate the deposit of the securities into DTC.

Book entry donations are valued on the date of receipt in our account and are based on the Hi and LO average for that day.  If the donation is a certificate re-registered in the name of Wheat Ridge Ministries, the date on the certificate is used.  If the certificate is signed over to Wheat Ridge Ministries and mailed, the postmark date is used.  Mutual funds will be valued at the net asset value on the day of the transfer.

For more information, please contact Holly Harrison Fiala at 800.762.6748.

Tangible Personal Property

Tangible personal property includes assets that can be touched or moved, e.g., jewelry, rare coins, stamps, etc.  A gift of tangible personal property to Wheat Ridge can generate a charitable tax deduction; however, there are IRS regulations regarding the deduction.

The property must be put to a use related to Wheat Ridge's mission to qualify the full market value of the asset as a charitable deduction.  Otherwise the deduction is limited to the cost of the asset.
