The theme of the gatherings is “Developing and Sustaining New Ministries” and it is hoped that the individuals gathered through this facilitated process were be able to learn more about what it takes to develop a successful new ministry effort. The first Round Table gathering took place in Itasca, Illinois, with 22 organizations represented while the second gathering took place in Manhasset, New York, with 25 organizations in attendance. Other Round Table Gatherings have taken place in Chaska, Minnesota, Livermore, California, and Irving, Texas. The design of the gathering encourages significant sharing by participants, including story telling and reflection on personal experiences during each step in the development process. There is also time for resource sharing and mutual support.
“It was also interesting to observe the bonding that took place as participants got to know one another and their various ministry programs,” continued Herman. “Regardless of the size of the organization or agency, leaders seemed to share many common joys and challenges as they lead people through the process of change that is necessary in order to develop and sustain new ministries of health and hope. We are very hopeful that connections and relationships among participants will continue to blossom.”
